It was on our way to a memorial golf day in Indonesia that my colleague, Adrian Love, showed me some excellent black and white footage he’d shot on his iPhone of a recent rainstorm, including some rather beautiful slow-motion and reversed sections. This inspired me to write some appropriately ambient music to accompany the footage.
We decided to include some segments of conversation with our friend Jess to get her views on the pros and cons of rain, so as to add to the atmosphere of the piece. It has to be said that Jess was slightly mortified to have had this included!
Yet again, I’ve made use of the excellent Omnisphere synthesiser module, and complemented that with the equally-excellent drum loop module Stylus from the same genius music software developers at Spectrasonics. I did plan to add some bass, but it just wasn’t necessary. A hopefully-tastefully-short guitar break has been included for added boredom-alleviation!
Favourite moment in the video for me is probably the transition (around 5:32) from the first balcony shot to a wider shot of the same scene, with an appropriate audio transition of slow/fast/slow rainfall (or should I say “rainrise”?).
