I created this track back in August of 2010.  It was the first of 5 tracks I made under a self-imposed regime in which I made a public resolution to finish and publish one track per month rather than never quite finishing anything (and getting into an OCD/perfectionistic state of perpetual fiddling!).  This burst of self-discipline came to an end in Feb/Mar 2011 due to a particularly stressful work trip to Tokyo which coincided with the great earthquake / tsunami that hit Japan on Mar 11th 2011.  But that’s another story…

The track was composed in Logic Pro and is almost entirely ‘electronic’ with the exception of a guitar solo (played on my Peavey EVH wolfgang guitar via GuitarRig FX).  Other than the 3rd party guitar effects, everything else just made use of Logic Pro’s onboard palette of sounds, with the main instrument being an electric piano.

Emotional key to the track comes from the hypnotic simplicity of the 4-note piano theme (which stays relatively constant, with a few variations of note order), with additional drama supplied by the sound of a thunderstorm midway through (again, thanks to Logic’s onboard store of special effects).  I’m, still, really satisfied with the resulting variety of textures in the mix, and recall at the time being particularly pleased with the fact that I had actually, finally, finished a track for (a very small portion of) the world to hear!
